Robotics Team Competes at Regional Qualifier

Chatham Hall
On January 5, the Tutu Turtles Robotics team traveled to Charlottesville, Va for the Central FTC Qualifier.
Facing off against teams from throughout Virginia, Chatham Hall won each of their five matches in the morning. Junior Hanako Ricci drove the robot while Quiana Rodriguez  ’21 operated the robot’s arms. The two were assisted by Claire Carmody ’19 as team Coach, Janie Leung ’19 as Pit Captain, and Camille Neal-Harris ’21 as team strategist. For their outstanding efforts, the team finished 5th in a field of 36 teams.

The Tutu Turtles worked closely with Chatham Hall alumna, Kathryn Waters ’14, to scout their competition throughout the day. Team mentors Molly Thomas and Dan Waters were impressed by the outstanding work of their team, with Thomas commenting, “I am always proud of our talented robotics team.  The students work well as a team on and off the field as they articulate design choices, interact with other teams and exhibit the FIRST standard of Gracious Professionalism.” The Charlottesville qualifier marked the end of the season for the Tutu Turtles, but the team is maintaining a busy schedule in the coming weeks with a presentation during the upcoming GIRLS day and volunteering in the local community.
