Fall Sports Round-Up

Each team had the chance to share the highs and lows of the season with special recognition of outstanding performances. Certificates were handed out to the Most Valuable Player and Most Improved Player, as well as a Coach’s Award, for each team. We checked in with each of the fall coaches to see what they had to say about their teams.

Laura Clay, Director of Athletics– “Our Fall Athletic teams have enjoyed so much success–measured by sportsmanship, personal and team growth, exciting wins, and a supportive enthusiasm from our entire community. There are so many transformational and enduring qualities girls develop through sports–determination, leadership, courage, grit, confidence, and trust. We value our coaches and athletes at Chatham Hall and look ahead to continuing our commitment to developing the whole girl.”

Dr. Ned Edwards, Varsity Tennis– “The Varsity Tennis Team has been a dream team this fall. Our 6-4 overall season (including shutting out 3 teams) earned us the #2 ranking in the Blue Ridge Conference. While we lost in the Conference semi-finals, the depth and skill of our team was apparent, and our sportsmanship was lauded by all. Once again Chatham Hall has succeeded in transforming what is usually seen as an individual sport into a strong and supportive team of tennis sisters. Every girl on the team, whether she played or not, contributed to a successful season. Special congratulations go to Singles #3 player, Sridha Chadalavada, who received the Gene Scott Conner Memorial Tennis Championship cup for winning the most interscholastic matches this season.”

Mr. Friso Kuiper, Varsity Field Hockey–"The Chatham Hall Varsity Field Hockey girls continue to build upon the successes of recent years. They have proven to be a strong competitor state-wide and across the border with a solid 10/5 record. Of the five games lost, three were in overtime and one was for the Conference Championship. This steady performance rewarded them with a position in the top 8 of the weekly Division II State polls with a high of 5th place. As the team is increasing their presence at the High-School level, athletes are being exposed to college-level opportunities and becoming increasingly eager to continue their career." 

Mr. Hunter Barnhardt, Varsity Cross Country– “I am incredibly impressed by the work that each member of the Cross Country team put into this season. Both new runners and veterans alike saw major improvement across the season, culminating in our excellent third-place finish in the Blue Ridge Conference meet. The success of this season will serve as a building block for seasons to come. I could not be more proud of these runners.”
