IEA Finishes Regular Season as Champions

The IEA team hosted two back to back horse shows at Mars Arena on January 26 and 27 to finish out the regular season of competition.
The team put on two great days of competition, welcoming teams from North Carolina through Northern Virginia. Both days started out with ribbons in Walk Trot Canter - Aly Lee '20 finished second,  while Caroline Hall '21 came in third. Caroline Slicer '19 closed out the division with a second place finish on Saturday and sixth on Sunday. In the Novice division, Athena Critides '21 was first in both flat and fences on Saturday, while Annabele Whitehead '22 came in third on the flat on Saturday and first on Sunday.  In the second section of Novice Flat on Sunday, Piper Vogel '22 received first and Zoey Horn '22 second. Gwen Werth '21 had a strong showing Saturday, with a fifth over fences and sixth on the flat. Rounding out the Novice division, Sarah Matejko '21 received third on Saturday and Sunday in Fences.

In the Intermediate division on Saturday, Zoe Holliday '21 was second on the flat and over fences, while Emma Jones '19 came in fifth and Saige Grande '20 finished sixth. On Sunday, Jones snagged sixth in both flat and fences, Maddi Grossman '19 was fifth on the flat and fourth over fences, while Isabella Hubbard '19 was first on the flat and third over fences.  Lily Porter '19 was second on the flat Saturday and third Sunday. Caroline Hawthorne '19 had a strong show Sunday, with a first on the flat and third over fences to finish out the day. For their efforts over the two days, the IEA team walked away with the Champion Ribbon on Sunday.

The team win was an added treat to the Senior Recognition, celebrating the hard work of nine seniors during their time on the Chatham Hall IEA team. Those girls are Maddi Grossman, Caroline Hawthorne, Isabella Hubbard, Hailey Johnson, Emma Jones, Lily Porter, Chandler Runnells, Caroline Slicer, Michaelyn Preston.

Though this weekend of competition was the last of the regular season,  thirteen individuals have qualified for Regional Finals. These riders will travel to MacNair's Country Acres in Raleigh North Carolina. In addition to our individual qualifiers, the team is qualified and will have one rider representing the team in each of seven classes at Regional Finals. The girls qualified as individuals are: Caroline Hawthorne '19 in Open Flat and Fences, Lily Porter '19 in Open Flat, Isabella Hubbard '19 in Intermediate Flat and Fences, Maddi Grossman '19 and Zoe Holliday '21 in Intermediate Flat, Annabele Whitehead '22 and Kensington Nelson '22 in both Novice Flat and Fences, Ellie Johnson '20 in Novice Fences, and Athena Critides '21, Zoey Horn '22, and Piper Vogel '22 in Novice Flat. Lastly, Julia Brown '21 and Aly Lee '20 are qualified in Walk Trot Canter.
