Faculty Positions

Academic Skills Teacher

Chatham Hall, an all girls 9-12 independent school in southern Virginia, is beginning a search for an Academic Skills teacher, a new position at this school.

The Academic Skills teacher will offer support to students in the areas of organization, writing, note-taking, assessments, attention, and SAT preparation. The ability to interpret and understand educational testing and to communicate findings to faculty is a necessity. The ideal candidate will have an excellent knowledge of learning theories and teaching methodologies that support a wide range of learning styles and best teaching practices. This Academic Skills teacher will work closely with students, teachers, parents, administrators, and educational counselors. Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and intelligence are personal qualities that we are looking for in this individual.

Qualifications: Minimum of three years of classroom teaching, as well as a strong background in supporting students in the above mentioned areas.

Chatham Hall would like to have this teacher in place by January, 2009. If we do not find the proper candidate within this time frame, the search will continue, with August, 2009, as the outside beginning date.

Dean of Students

Chatham Hall, an all-girls, boarding-and-day high school in southern Virginia, seeks a Dean of Students for the 2009-2010 academic year.

A key administrator at the School, the Dean of Students at Chatham Hall serves as the head of residential life, oversees the Health Care Center, determines routine disciplinary actions, coordinates and oversees a seminar for new girls, teaches an elective in an area of expertise, and, in collaboration with the Academic Dean, advises the Student Honor Council, among other responsibilities.

We are seeking a candidate who is not only experienced and skillful at working with adolescent girls in a boarding school, but also creative, innovative, and forward-looking. Our new Dean of Students will inherit a residential program that is characterized by cooperative, affectionate, and respectful relationships among students and adults. We will look to our new Dean of Students to develop this program into an even more distinctive and dynamic aspect of community life. 

In addition to possessing a mature sense of ethics and strong management skills, candidates must be adaptable and able to work affably and collaboratively with a range of people. Skill with written and oral communication is essential. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required, as well as suitable overall experience in secondary education for this kind of upper-level administrative position in a select boarding school.

Salary is competitive, and housing is provided. Beginning date, July 1, 2009.
